Global Warming is THE campaign issue!

THIS ELECTION IS OUR LAST CHANCE 

TO HELP AVOID THE WORST.

There is a remarkably high scientific agreement about the reality of global warming and that the primary factor in global warming is human activity. And we can, therefore, take steps to reduce our contribution and TRY OUR BEST to slow the warming and its harmful impacts.

How broad is the agreement? It includes ALL the national and international professional scientific associations. We're talking about agreement in the scientific community as broad as the agreement that the Earth is not flat.

Congressional Climate Deniers

In the U.S., we are in midst of an election where the Republican Party still does not accept the scientific consensus on global warming while the Democratic Party has proposed legislation to slow global warming as early as 1993. 

Voting Blue NOW, on the precipice of the slippery slope of runaway global warming, is our last chance to slow it before we are confronted with global warming impacts that we cannot adapt to - except less and less effectively - in terms of emergency responses.

By 1975, climatologists had enough data to show that global warming was occurring. By the end of the 1980's, the international community had agreed upon a 2 degree Celsius increase in global temperature (since the “Industrial Revolution” and the world's increasing burning of fossil fuels) as the  upper limit beyond which the world could not adapt with minimum harm and destruction to the impacts of that warming.

As of the current international Paris agreement on global warming, the upper limit is now 1.5 degrees Celsius – although there is significant disagreement that the upper limit is actually below that number, closer to a 1 degree Celsius increase WHICH the world will shortly reach. 

Even assuming that it is possible to stay below a 1.5 degree Celsius increase and to adapt to it with minimum harm, etc., we are at the point where the world must achieve a  radical reduction of warming gas emissions very rapidly (decades at most). 

We MUST declare war on Climate Change!

In other words, NOW IS THE TIME WHEN we must make the sacrifices to reduce energy use and switch to renewables as if (metaphorically) war had been declared and we had to totally mobilize to defend against invasion!

Youth Vote Critical to Democratic Victory

About the 2016 elections...The Congressional GOP majority must be replaced by Democrats - and we must elect a Democrat POTUS in order to make effective global warming and fiscal policies - and then be able to carry out these new, positive policies.

WE NEED OUR YOUTH! They are instrumental to the successful election of a Democratic POTUS and a Democratic majority in Congress!  How can you help with the 2016 election? Here are just a few ideas.

1. If you are old enough to vote, register to vote if you haven't already done so.
2. Groups: Create groups or join existing groups that support the Democratic candidate for President and/or for Congressional seats. Volunteer to assist with voter registration efforts, phone calls, polls, etc.
3. Find elected officials through their Twitter accounts or doing a Google search.
4. Help a Congressional district gain a Democratic seat: Use Ken Mazlen's website Global Warming and the 2016 Legacy or the Cook Political Report Race Ratings to see a list showing where Democrats can gain House seats. You can help a district even if you do not live in that district.
5. Contact the League of Women Voters in your area. Find out how you can help register voters via a booth at local musical festivals or other events.
6. Create your own voter registration event.
   
7. Encourage online voter registration via Voto Latino, Vote 411,  I Will Vote, OR Rock the Vote where you can even get email reminders when its time to vote!

9. Learn about the political process. Take it seriously because it is SERIOUS BUSINESS! Get out there and VOTE!

For events: Be sure to get local TV (or radio, newspaper) coverage prior to and day of these events highlighting your voter registration efforts with the date, time, and location, of course!

Don't be shy! Do what you can. Encourage others. Don't give up!
