NEW INFRASTRUCTURE IN A WARMING WORLD

REDUCING HARM V. WASTED TAX DOLLARS BY “DENIAL” POLITICIANS

Each passing day the Trump Administration (elect) makes it clearer that their energy policies, strongly supported by the Republican Party, will contribute to warming and rising seas, etc., rather than slowing warming and all its harmful impacts. 

Also, it appears certain that there will be proposed Republican  “infrastructure investment” legislation. However, since the Republican Party rejects the settled science on global warming, the Republican infrastructure legislation will  be the traditional “boondoggle” legislation: fixing unsafe bridges, repairing roads etc.

Such legislation would throw away our tax dollars on construction investments (and other investments) that are out of date or will shortly be out of date in a world that is continuously warming and climate is, therefore, continuously changing. Accordingly, the Democratic Senatorial minority must use the filibuster to prevent the waste of our tax dollars and make clear in Democratic legislative proposals that reducing harm to the American people is the first test of new infrastructure legislation.

By WORKING WITH OTHER COMMUNITIES AT THE LOCAL LEVEL, we will help plan changes to best PROTECT our communities AND WE WILL ENCOURAGE & SUPPORT DEMOCRATIC PARTY:

1. RESISTANCE TO WORTHLESS INFRASTRUCTURE LEGISLATION 
2. EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON TRULY WORTHWHILE INFRASTRUCTURE CHANGES IN A WARMING WORLD

A first step is to contact city government and ask them about plans for infrastructure that help protect against and withstand severe weather events.

Since the election, it has become clear that the Trump Administration will be guided by the denial policies on global warming and the illiberal value policies that were espoused during the campaign.

Therefore, with regard to global warming, I will begin to pay attention to how communities can pursue rational adaptation planning for a future of continuous warming and climate change. 

TAXES SPENT ON INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS THAT IGNORE WARMING ARE MONIES WASTED AND FAIL TO BETTER PROTECT COMMUNITIES FROM WARMING DRIVEN HARM.


At the same time - we MUST continue to be actively involved, resisting what is inherently WRONG, remembering that this new, incoming administration's ideologies and intentions are NOT GOOD, NOT NORMAL!

Only an ENTIRELY NEW LEVEL OF ACTIVISM 

CAN EXERT ENOUGH PRESSURE TO BREAK: 

(1)THE MEDIA SILENCE ON GLOBAL WARMING &

(2)THE REPUBLICAN REFUSAL 

TO PROTECT HUMANITY FROM GREATER HARM.

Furthermore, only an ENTIRELY NEW LEVEL OF ACTIVISM, by members of the MAJORITY OF AMERICANS WHO REJECTED THE VALUES AND POLICIES OF THE INCOMING ADMINISTRATION, CAN BLUNT THE VIRULENT ASSAULT UPON FUNDAMENTAL, WELL-ESTABLISHED AMERICAN VALUES  AND PROGRESS THAT THE IN-COMING ADMINISTRATION IS DETERMINED TO PURSUE.  

WE WILL NOT GIVE UP OR GIVE IN! 

WE WILL NOT GO ALONG SILENTLY 

OR MEEKLY WITH WHAT IS WRONG.

1. BREAK THE MEDIA SILENCE ON GLOBAL WARMING AND 
2. BREAK THE REPUBLICAN REFUSAL TO PROTECT HUMANITY FROM HARM

With the stunningly unexpected victory of a Trump Administration that regards global warming as a hoax, WE CANNOT EXPECT NATIONAL POLICY TO SLOW GLOBAL WARMING – (UNLESS CATASTROPHIC CLIMATIC EVENTS BREAK THE FOSSIL FUEL INDUSTRIES’ CONTROL OF REPUBLICAN POLICY). 

We can, however, try to breach the denial of science BY A VERY BROAD BASED AND HEIGHTENED LEVEL OF ACTIVISM TO MAKE THE PASSAGE OF ESSENTIAL LEGISLATION POSSIBLE.

Knowing the positions and priorities of the in-coming Presidential Administration and Congressional majorities, PROACTIVE organizing to break the media silence on and Republican Party denial of global warming must begin NOW.

Further, we must build an activist movement that cuts across specific organizational priority issues. Since we are all vulnerable to the increasing harm of global warming, single issue politics (like gun control, LGBT rights, Black Lives Matter, etc.) must come together in coalitions that draw upon uniquely broad based activism.

More than half of the electorate voted for Hillary Clinton and sensible global warming policy. A very large majority of Americans acknowledges global warming as real. WE ARE ALL ACTIVISTS. If we can FLOOD the local media, our local House members and our Senators – in person, with email, with calls, with letters, we can make our views much more difficult to deny and, hopefully, promote the essential global warming legislation.

We are in the last phase
of the 2016 national election. 

THE FUTURE IS AT STAKE
AS AT NO TIME BEFORE.

That's right...Donald Trump is NOT who we are. And that includes his TrumpTrain of weak-kneed GOP followers that created their candidate and that are afraid to stand up their candidate.

VOTE THEM OUT! 

NO MORE OBSTRUCTION!

Right now, we have to do everything we can think of to help the Democrats to gain the House majority in order TO PASS THE ESSENTIAL LEGISLATION TO AVOID RUNAWAY GLOBAL WARMING. 

Here are some basic things almost anyone CAN DO:

1. Sign up to volunteer to give as much time as possible to the local Democratic campaign organizations 
2. Where registration to vote is still possible, get involved  
3. Next, increased voter turn-out is A KEY TO VICTORY – spread the word as widely as possible, every BLUE vote is important; explain that 3rd Party votes and NOT VOTING = Trump votes! 
4. On election day, help in whatever way you can – make calls, driving voters to their polling places, etc.

I’m very hopeful that we will have a Democratic President elected with an unquestionable MANDATE.

I’m also hopeful that we will have a Democratic majority Senate, in spite of the vast dark money supporting Republican candidates by the Koch network and others.

IF we get a Democratic Majority in the Senate, it is very likely that a Supreme Court, with at least one new member approved during the next Congress, will reverse the utterly partisan decisions and general direction of the Scalia Court. Perhaps the Court can take unlimited individual and corporate donations and spending out of the American political process!

VOTE FOR THOSE WHO ARE ABSOLUTELY COMMITTED TO PASS POLICIES 

ESSENTIAL TO SUFFICIENTLY SLOW GLOBAL WARMING.

THE FUTUTRE IS AT STAKE.

As every second passes, more warming gases are accumulating in our atmosphere and increasing global warming. In addition to the emissions of warming gases that result directly from human activity, there are many natural physical consequences of warming (positive feedback loops) that are, in turn, increasing global warming further by, also releasing increasing amounts of warming gases into our atmosphere as global temperature increases.

We at the 12th hour in terms of runaway global warming when it can no longer be slowed by human activity, UNLESS the U.S. passes and implements the strongest possible policies to slow global warming and leads the worldwide community of nations in doing the same.

The current Senate, has a 54 seat Republican majority. 

Democrats need to gain five seats in order to a have a majority in the Senate.

The assumption six months ago was that it would be easy for the Democrats to gain a majority in the Senate since there are 24 seats currently held by Republicans up for election compared to only 10 seats currently held by Democrats. Current surveys indicate that there are approximately 8 Republican battleground (close contest) seats. There is only one Democratic seat that is also a battleground state (Nevada). The race for the Democrats to gain five seats is closer than it seemed six months ago. Why?

Given the very weak position of the Republican presidential candidate, the Koch money network announced months ago that they would funnel their vast resources to Senate and House seats. Since the Citizens United Supreme Court decision and the Federal SpeechNOW decision created the likelihood that very wealthy corporations and individuals are contributing many billions of (dark) dollars to the attack ad media campaigns, the unexpected competitiveness of the race for the Senate majority is probably due to the result of corporate and individual wealth defending their economic positions by trying to buy a Republican majority Senate.

The importance of a Senate majority is, of course to pass or defeat legislation generally speaking, but ALSO to approve new members for the Supreme Court. 

A Democratic Senate Majority would likely approve a Supreme Court that could:

• reverse Citizens United and other decisions heavily advantaging the wealthy and powerful AND 
• protect or extend rights decisions like those affecting civil rights, voting, etc., and, of course, Roe v. Wade.

SAVE OUR FUTURE from RUNAWAY GLOBAL WARMING!
