Slow global warming? VOTE BLUE!

WE ARE ON THE SLIPPERY SLOPE – will the U.S. ELECTORATE SAVE THE FUTURE FOR OTHER GENERATIONS?

It is clear from the U.S. media that the Republican Party and its Presidential Candidate want to 

1. reduce taxes on the very wealthy & large/powerful corporations (thus, transferring the tax burden to the other 99+%) 
2. reduce/eliminate regulations that protect the public in order to increase profits for the very wealthy & large corporations. 

Furthermore, there is a cult of personality fostered around the Republican Presidential candidate that has striking similarities to the cult followers of Mussolini and Hitler: 

• acceptance of extreme narcissism 
• seemingly boundless hypocrisy and beyond-facts lying 
• proposing to ignore Constitutional and other legal norms 
• ruthless criticism/”suppression” of oppositional protest

We must ELECT A DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT and a DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY SENATE to PULL THE SUPREME COURT BACK from the PARTISAN MAJORITY that has ELIMINATED THE BARRIERS to the TOTAL POLITICS OF WEALTH.

FIRST AND FOREMOST AND ABSENT FROM THE MEDIA, this election is about whether the U.S. will be able to rapidly pass and implement effective legislation to slow global warming emissions at home and take a convincing and effective leadership role in the world in collaboratively reducing warming emissions in China, India, etc.

We need to ELECT A DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT and a DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY in the SENATE and the HOUSE, UNEQUIVOCALLY ON THE RECORD, IN FAVOR OF PASSING THE LEGISLATION ESSENTIAL TO SLOW GLOBAL WARMING! 

VOTE AS IF THE FUTURE OF CIVILIZATION DEPENDS

UPON THIS ELECTION...

...because this is the MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION IN HUMAN HSTORY!

Global Warming is THE campaign issue!

There is a remarkably high scientific agreement about the reality of global warming and that the primary factor in global warming is human activity. And we can, therefore, take steps to reduce our contribution and TRY OUR BEST to slow the warming and its harmful impacts.

How broad is the agreement? It includes ALL the national and international professional scientific associations. We're talking about agreement in the scientific community as broad as the agreement that the Earth is not flat.

Congressional Climate Deniers

In the U.S., we are in midst of an election where the Republican Party still does not accept the scientific consensus on global warming while the Democratic Party has proposed legislation to slow global warming as early as 1993. 

Voting Blue NOW, on the precipice of the slippery slope of runaway global warming, is our last chance to slow it before we are confronted with global warming impacts that we cannot adapt to - except less and less effectively - in terms of emergency responses.

We must WORK TOGETHER for the

By 1975, climatologists had enough data to show that global warming was occurring. By the end of the 1980's, the international community had agreed upon a 2 degree Celsius increase in global temperature (since the “Industrial Revolution” and the world's increasing burning of fossil fuels) as the  upper limit beyond which the world could not adapt with minimum harm and destruction to the impacts of that warming.

As of the current international Paris agreement on global warming, the upper limit is now 1.5 degrees Celsius – although there is significant disagreement that the upper limit is actually below that number, closer to a 1 degree Celsius increase WHICH the world will shortly reach. 

Even assuming that it is possible to stay below a 1.5 degree Celsius increase and to adapt to it with minimum harm, etc., we are at the point where the world must achieve a  radical reduction of warming gas emissions very rapidly (decades at most). 

We MUST declare war on Climate Change!

In other words, NOW IS THE TIME WHEN we must make the sacrifices to reduce energy use and switch to renewables as if (metaphorically) war had been declared and we had to totally mobilize to defend against invasion!

GLOBAL WARMING & FAMILY VALUES: ELECT A DEMOCRATIC HOUSE MAJORITY

The Democrats are the TRUE PARTY OF FAMILY VALUES – long promoting policies to help ­families thrive: 

• Social Security 
• AFDC 
• Minimum Wages 
• Affordable health care (Medicaid, Medicare, ACA) 
• Safety from avoidable harm 
• as consumers (FDA, CPSA) 
• as workers (OSHA) 
• and environmental-exposure (EPA) 

In contrast, the current Republican House majority seeks to reduce spending on all of these and other family friendly programs.

Everyone would agree that any discussion of FAMILY VALUES must include safety from avoidable harm in any and every way. 

In this sense, slowing global warming is the central issue/family value of our time. 

The Republican Party’s rejection of policies to effectively slow global warming as much as humanity is able to IS condemning our children, our grandchildren, and all generations to come, to a future of greater harm and destruction.

GOP DENIAL: Runaway Global Warming & Mass Extinctions

To do our best to avoid runaway global warming,

Many geologist have begun to refer to this time of global warming as a new geological age called the Anthropocene.

However, geological “epochs” are defined in terms of local animal extinctions (and the eventual appearance of new species) whereas the resulting extinction rate from human activity that may cause  runaway global warming would certainly not be local – IT WOULD BE GLOBAL. And it could attain the rate of the greatest extinctions 90%+ of the few geological “eras”. 



In other words, the current Republican House majority has pushed the human world much closer to catastrophic changes.

Are we to go the way of the DINOSAURS because the 

MONOLITHIC, IMMORAL,  REPUBLICAN  HOUSE MAJORITY 

and the CANDIDATES IT SUPPORTS 

VALUE WEALTH OVER HUMAN SURVIVAL? 

AND DENY SCIENTIFIC CONSENSUS!?

NO!

Slowing Global Warming is THE Moral Issue!

In the U.S., in particular, the FUNDAMENTALLY MORAL ISSUE OF GLOBAL WARMING has been “hijacked” by the Republican Party as an issue that is an amoral, a mere “political” issue.

What ARE YOU going to do about it? 
REGISTER & VOTE DEM!

The three decade long Republican Party resistance to and obstruction of legislation to slow global warming has been IMMORAL behavior primarily protecting the profits of the coal, oil and gas industries etc. at unthinkable cost to humanity.

Ask yourself:

• Is the on-going and future, profound desecration of the natural world due to global warming not a MORAL concern? Not a question of fundamental “WRONG”? 
• Are the on-going and future injuries, deaths, and destruction of our homes, cities etc., not a MORAL concern? Not a question of fundamental "WRONG"?

All the world’s major religions agree that 
not acting to slow global warming is WRONG.

In Christian terms, NOT ACTING TO SLOW GLOBAL WARMING IS A SIN.

SHARE THE TRUTH.

CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL.

CLIMATE CHANGE = A MORAL ISSUE.

Of course, global warming has many impacts on our physical (and social) environment.

However, RUNAWAY GLOBAL WARMING will cause the desecration of “Nature” (as humans have known it for about 10,000 years)  and will also cause injury, death, and destruction affecting humanity/civilization that will last for generations spanning 50,000 or more years. 

This CLEARLY makes GLOBAL WARMING A MORAL ISSUE!

There is no debate among the great religions of the world that:

1. global warmly is primarily the result of human activity (the burning of oil, gas and coal etc.) and therefore 
2. global warming can, possibly, be slowed enough to enable civilization to adapt to the changes due to a warming world and survive by sufficiently minimizing the harmful effects 
3. THE ALTERNATIVE TO RAPID, EFFECTIVE POLICY CHANGES IS RUNAWAY GLOBAL WARMING THAT THREATENS CIVILIZATION/HUMAN SURVIVAL.
